This 17-day Escape to Machu Picchu Adventure provides riders the unique opportunity to visit a fascinating variety of South America's most exciting destinations. The itinerary includes Argentina, Chile, and Peru with Machu Picchu as our final destination.
Adventurers will begin this journey in the tropical jungle environment at Foz do Iguaçu. This incredible waterfalls, located on the border of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, is one of South America's most popular tourist attractions. Larger than either Niagara or Africa's Victoria Falls, Iguaçu was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986.
Riders will spend two nights at a luxurious hotel in Argentina, overlooking the falls. The trip includes a thrilling powerboat trip up the Iguaçu River to the base of the falls.
We’ll spend several nights in interesting little Argentinean towns before we begin our climb into the Andes Mountains and enter Chile.
In Chile, we’ll visit San Pedro de Atacama, ride through the heart of the Atacama Desert and spend a night in the beach resort of Arica. We will continue on to Arequipa, a beautiful city, surrounded by spectacular mountains, the most famous of which is the volcano El Misti. From there, on to Peru and Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake, in Puno, Peru.
In Puno riders will have the option to visit the Floating Islands of the Uros people - an experience unlike any other in the world. Inhabitants live on islands fabricated entirely from local reeds. The largest of the floating islands supports buildings, including a school and post office.
From Puno, the route continues to Cuzco and Machu Picchu - the Lost City of the Incas - South America's best known and most popular archaeological site. |
